Last week, on its ArtsBeat blog, The New York Times reported on a panel discussion hosted by the Asian American Performers Action Coalition that discussed why Asian Americans have little representation in theatre. The reasons? One seems to be the lack of outspokenness of Asian Americans, both actors and donors or trustees, requesting more acting roles. For a culture that has typically been more subversive, making the effort to demand more roles may be the solution to complaints over the lack of diversity in casting.
